-In 2024, a particularly interesting discovery was made, as it is the main subject of this site: the Slavic people. A team of underwater archaeologists from Copernicus University in Torun, in cooperation with the Early Piast Museum in Lednica, stumbled upon something incredible at the bottom of Lake Lednica. Several very well-preserved oak and elm beams that formed the fortification of a town there. Then, nearby, they discovered a beam 1.34 meters long and about 12 centimeters in diameter with a carved face, also perfectly preserved.
-Several discoveries over time have provided evidence of a Slavic settlement near this lake, but now we know that there was a fortress and perhaps more… Indeed, what was the purpose of this carved wooden beam? If a village had already existed on this site for many years before christianity, there is no doubt that a sacred temple must have been located there.
-This sculpture dates back to the mid-10th century, a period still protected from monotheism, so the idea of a new sanctuary cannot be ruled out, especially since, near this face, wild animal bones were discovered in a sort of ditch, which clearly attests to a sacrifice in honor of the deities, as was common at the time. And to further support this hypothesis, we must not forget that after the « baptism » of Poland, princes, clan chiefs, and ordinary people continued to believe in the old beliefs, proof of the vitality and attachment of the Polish people to the ancient Gods and Goddesses!
-A wonderful discovery announced this year, waiting the results of future excavations…
