Slavic Mythology

-Although the sources concerning the Slav religion remain insufficient in comparison, for example, to the German-Scandinavian religion, they nevertheless remain numerous culturally, archaeologically, in folklore, among the traditions of the various Slavic countries and of course in catholicism or among the orthodox who have only recovered the Gods by changing them into saints, changing rituals etc …

-We can therefore get closer to a historical authenticity strong enough to be able to find some myths.

–At the beginning… :

« Before the light was born, the universe was enveloped in a deep darkness, and in that darkness dwelt Rod, our father, the father of all things.

–Rod was confined in an egg, the primordial egg. He was like a seed that did not germinate, a bud that does not grow. But the end of this imprisonment came and Rod demolished his « prison » with all his power. Some say that the strength of love helped him that he breathed into her the strength needed to liberate herself and from this love was born Lada goddess of love.

-Then Rod the Almighty created the universe, the kingdom of heaven and the world under heaven. He separated the blue ocean from the sky, the light from the darkness, the truth from the lie … He created a cow to feed on his milk and that milk Rod spilled in the sky and created the Milky Way. Later with the birth of other Gods, sons of Rod, they divided the world into 3 parts: Prav / Swarga (the world of Gods), Jav (the world of mortals) and Nav (the world of the dead).

–It is said:

« So the luminous moon cames out of her bosom, the bosom of Rod the saint, the ancestor, the father of the gods!

The crystalline stars comes from his eyes, the eyes of Rod the marvelous, the ancestor, the father of the Gods!

The light of dawn comes from his forehead, the forehead of Rod the marvelous, the ancestor, the father of the Gods!

The wild winds of his breath, the breath of Rod the marvelous, the ancestor, the father of the Gods!

The rain, the snow and the hail of his tears, the tears of Rod the marvelous, the ancestor, the father of the Gods!

Thunder and lightning come from his voice, the voice of Rod the marvelous, the ancestor, the father of the Gods!

He is the rolling of thunder, the voice of the Gods! « 

–Rod is the father of the Gods, he is also their mother. He gave them knowledge and power. Rod comes from himself, and can be reborn again. Rod is what has been, and what will be.

-When the supreme God had finished this colossal work, he gaves birth to other Gods and these same Gods had their own children too. As for Rod, he left his children now to manage the world and the universe and withdrew to the highest point, the North Star, and from there sat on his throne watching everything.

– A long time ago, Perun the God of thunder, war, protector of men, flew over the surface of the water in the form of a cigne and felt lonely and wanted a new place to live. He saw then Weles, guardian of the gates of Nav, the world of the dead, God of healings, oaths, musicians and animals.

-All right away, Perun asked Weles to help him to create the land. Weles was immediately delighted by this proposal. Perun then told Weles that he had to dive into the ocean and say an incantation to catch sand deep in the ocean.

–The incantation said:

« With the power of Perun and mine I take this sand! »

– Weles twice dipped in the water but failed to recover sand. Indeed he did not recite the formula as it should and pronounced only:

« By my power I take this sand! »

-The third time he dived, he said the right words and managed to grab a few grains of sand in his hands and in his mouth.

-Once on the surface he gave the sand to Perun who scattered it on the water and suddenly the earth appeared and began to grow. The earth was growing not only in the eyes of the Gods but also in Weles‘ mouth, until he spit it out to get rid of it and so he created the first mountain called Triglav.

–Triglav is also the name of the God of the 3 worlds, messenger of the different spiritual levels. As for our land she became a goddess called Matka Ziemia.

-The first quarrel between Perun and Weles will take place directly when the land began to grow. As Perun slept, Weles wanted to throw him in the water to keep this land alone. However, the latter never stopped growing and Weles never found the ocean. In the early morning he pointed out to Perun how big the earth was and how to stop it.

–Perun then said maliciously:

« I blessed him last night, in all four directions, long before you tried to throw me in the water … »

« In spite of everything, Perun was anxious to think that soon the sky would no longer cover the earth if it were to continue.

-He went to ask Weles how to stop the progress of the land, but in the meantime Weles had created the goat and refused the secret to stop it.

–Perun created a bee to spy on Weles. The latter, sitting quietly on Weles‘ shoulder, heard the God speak to his goat:

« What a stupid God, he does not even know that you just have to take four sticks, put a cross on it and say » the earth stops growing « . »

-On hearing this, the bee flew to tell Perun everything. When Weles realized he had been fooled, he cursed the bee and shouted:

« From now on whoever comes across you, will want to eat your excrement. »

(Thus was created the drink of the Gods: the Mead.)

–Perun stopped the growth of the land. Henceforth, there reigned a perfect harmony between heaven, earth and ocean.

-Now all this was created, Perun found a water point and wanted to wash and cool off. But the heat was such that he still began to sweat. He wiped with straw and threw it on the floor. Weles, who was never far away, on seeing this, he had the idea, thanks to his knowledge as a magician, to create the first man.

-He immediately told Perun and he was delighted with the idea. From the straw Weles carved the body of a man and gave him life. Perun stood up and blew on the straw, he gave him a Soul ……

-Later, Perun decided to reign with the other gods in Prav. »

-Many other myths exist and despite the greatness of the Slav lands and some differences, the base and core of the Gods remain the same everywhere.

-These people originally from the center of Europe, formerly called Scythian plowman or Sclavene, Antes or later still Wendes discoverd since the Paleolithic a complex mythology with the first Gods Rod and his Rodzanice (similar to Nornes Germano-Scandinavian), Weles and Swarog (certainly in their first animals forms) and also with the Mother Earth Matka Ziemia. From there, thanks to divinations, meditations, shamanic travels, the ancient spiritual leaders have managed to offer us a religion in perfect harmony with the world and the universe that surrounds it. One of the most beautiful religions, and THE most beautiful for me.
